Webinar: The Nominal Group Process for Prioritization of Problems.

Rather than a lecture, this educational session captures a problem solving discussion with students, parents, teachers, child specialists, community representatives, government administrators and business leaders. Each participant is asked to select a certain number of his or her top priority concerns. When all have completed the selection, a simple tabulation is done used as all responses within the group are collected. Items are ranked from highest frequency to lowest response, thus beginning the group prioritization process. Every item remains on the list, but strategies for working through to specific outcomes on a limited number of top priority items begins with three or four items getting the focused attention of a strategic planning group.

Then, the internet discussion begins. Three or four designated individuals of differing backgrounds open the discussion. General discussion follows. The moderator summarizes the discussion within a one-week period and prepares a summary report. A posting, summarizing the technique within the online group, closes the Webinar.

The complete educational package, including the list of agreed-upon challenges, specific strategies for three to four of these concerns, and summaries of the research discussion, is placed in the database for any registrant needing materials at a future date.
