Women Participation in Irrigation Programs Multiply Yields and Incomes

A program in Vietnam is teaching women who live on farms how to implement irrigation systems. Participation in the Water Users Organizations, which is all organized by the World Bank’s Vietnam Water Resources Assistance Project, helps poor women farmers not only find work and establish themselves as integral parts of the community’s economy, but also provides better crop yields for their families.

"Tajikistan Farm Water: Trying to Salvage Agriculture in a Key Part of Central Asia"

Many fields in Tajikistan have been neglected for generations because it seemed that they were not fertile. But now, thanks to help from the Tajikistani Government and the World Bank, projects are underway to provide these lands with irrigation techniques which will then make the land arable. Part of the problem is that so many children help their parents in the fields and are therefore unable to attend school. Hopefully, with these new water techniques, children can go to school as their help on the fields will no longer be crucial to the family’s survival.

Irrigation in Israel

A Kenyan TV group traveled to Tel Aviv to learn about Israel’s irrigation, agriculture, and water management practices. This reporter explains how Kenya has something to learn from Israel’s incredible example. The techniques implemented in Israel can be easily and efficiently implemented in Kenya. Senegalese farmers are in Israel learning about the “Family drip irrigation” technique and will then be bringing this knowledge back to their country. Israel is spreading its knowledge of drip irrigation with the rest of the world.
